Chapter 6: A Small Bet?
Chapter 6: A Small Bet?
Bruce Lee had booked the entire lounge, and at this moment, the spacious room contained only the three of them.
Lorna sat down opposite him, and the tape in the tape recorder slowly turned.
Qin Han sat to the side, quietly acting as an audience member.
"Mr. Li," she said, now fully engaged, "in America, when people mention kung fu, they always associate it with violence, fighting, or something flashy but impractical."
"What do you think true kung fu is?"
Bruce Lee smiled confidently and calmly: "For me, the ultimate meaning of martial arts is to faithfully express myself."
This was clearly an unexpected answer; she had interviewed countless celebrities, and no one had ever spoken of "self-expression" like a philosopher.
Lorna pressed on, "But that's hard to understand, isn't it? To the average viewer, all they see is you breaking planks and kicking bricks."
Bruce Lee shook his index finger: "The wooden board won't fight back."
"In real combat, you need to be like flowing water, reacting instantly to your opponent's movements, rather than thinking with your brain."
His hand traced a graceful arc in the air, seemingly boneless yet containing immense power.
Water is ever-changing; it can be as soft as water, or it can penetrate stone. We should be like water, my friend.
Upon hearing this classic quote, Qin Han felt goosebumps rise all over his body.
This can be considered witnessing history!
……
Looking at the charming Eastern man before her, Luo Na saw not only his superb martial arts skills, but also his profound and unfathomable soul.
She realized she had struck gold.
This is not just a simple entertainment report; it is an in-depth dialogue about the collision of Eastern and Western cultures.
Last year, President Nixon traveled to that mysterious Eastern country, a trip hailed as "the most important ice-breaking trip ever."
Now, the entire American society is filled with curiosity about the other side of the Pacific Ocean.
Publishing such an insightful interview at this time will definitely be the pinnacle of his career.
Seeing the increasingly bright light in Luo Na's eyes, Qin Han felt reassured.
This interview is substantial enough.
"That was fantastic." After the interview, Lorna packed up her notebook and recorder, her eyes filled with admiration as she looked at Bruce Lee.
"Mr. Li, I believe this report will allow the entire United States to see you in a new light."
"I hope so too." Bruce Lee stood up and shook her hand politely. "Thank you for your hard work, Miss Barrett."
After escorting Bruce Lee back to his room, only Qin Han and Luo Na remained in the executive lounge.
The female reporter packed up all her belongings, crossed her arms, and said, "Alright, Mr. Qin, the interview is over. I'm very satisfied with the material."
"Now, let's talk about my Eldorado."
"You only have three sentences to explain why I shouldn't have sent you to the police station."
After all, the two had already collaborated on several large projects worth hundreds of millions of yuan. Qin Han was not intimidated by Luo Na's aggressive demeanor. Instead, he moved closer to her and looked directly into her eyes.
"First, that interview just now fulfilled my promise. I think you should at least have some faith in me."
His gaze swept across the corner of Rona's mouth, catching that fleeting smile, so he reached out two fingers and pinched the tip of her round nose:
"Secondly, since I lost your car, I naturally have to take full responsibility. Right now, there's an opportunity that can help you earn enough cash to buy several Eldorados."
The word "cash" clearly piqued Lorna's interest.
No one would turn down money, especially a celebrity journalist like her who needs to maintain a high level of social spending.
"Third..." Qin Han took another step forward, and Luo Na instinctively wanted to lean back, but found herself already leaning against the wall.
Their faces were inches apart, and they could hear each other's breaths.
"I have an opportunity that will make you a legend in film history. Of course, due to trade secrets, I can't reveal it yet."
Lorna's heart raced slightly as she stared into Qin Han's eyes, trying to see through the young Chinese man.
However, just like last time, her eyes, which had seen countless people, showed no sign of panic or nervousness, only full of confidence.
"You're such a... bastard, Qin."
She stretched out her slender hands and straightened Qin Han's tie knot: "If you dare to lie to me, I'll make sure you can't stay in Los Angeles. I mean it."
"Of course." Qin Han grabbed her hand, sat down in the chair, and gently pulled her onto his lap.
"Tell me, how can I earn enough money to buy a few cars?" Rona took out her favorite menthol cigarette, lit it, and took a deep drag.
"Take Bruce and me to meet with the top executives at Universal Pictures," Qin Han said succinctly.
"We want to introduce Golden Harvest to Universal Pictures so that they can import Bruce Willis's film that broke box office records in Hong Kong—'The Big Boss'."
"What?" Rona's hand, holding a cigarette, froze in mid-air. "Import? You mean buy out the distribution rights?"
"Hollywood has never imported Hong Kong films on a large scale before. The picture quality and dubbing of those films were simply disastrous, not to mention that there were no white actors at all. American audiences wouldn't buy it."
"That was before," Qin Han interrupted her. "Times have changed, Luo Na. Today's audiences need some new stimulation."
He pointed to her recording equipment: "You just heard it too, the charm of the blues transcends race and culture."
"I can guarantee that Universal will only need to pay a small copyright fee to get a very substantial return. And you can get your share of the box office revenue."
Lorna flicked her cigarette ash and fell into deep thought.
As a frequent visitor to the top management of Global, she was well aware that those old guys were currently worried about finding new growth points for their financial reports.
If what Qin Han said is true, this would be a quick deal with low investment and high returns.
But she still had some concerns.
"Qin, I admit Bruce is very charismatic, but business is business. If the box office is dismal after the import, my reputation at Universal will be damaged."
Qin Han chuckled and reached out to lift her chin: "When you lent me your car for an exclusive interview, weren't you worried too? And what happened? You got what might be the most exciting entertainment news story of the year."
"If that's the case, why not trust me one more time?"
His gaze was intense, as if it possessed some kind of magic.
Luo Na's eyes flickered as she sat motionless on Qin Han's lap until the cigarette butt was almost burning her fingertips before she stubbed it out hard in the ashtray.
"Three days." She stood up and looked down at Qin Han.
"Give me three days, and I'll arrange for Sidney Sinberg to meet with you. If you mess this up, you'll be washing dishes in Chinatown for the rest of your life to pay off my car debt."
"Deal." Qin Han smiled and stood up to see him off.
As she reached the door, Lorna seemed to remember something, glanced back at him, and parted her red lips slightly:
"Also, that pose you just used... next time remember to try it somewhere where no one is around."
