Chapter 350: The Wedding Banquet
Chapter 350: The Wedding Banquet
Mr. Zhang Sr. felt reassured; he just felt sorry for Lin Xiang. She managed to get into Huaqing University, spoke fluent foreign languages, and made becoming a diplomat her goal. Yet, how long did it take before she got married?
He hardly took on a student, but unfortunately, this student is going to be trapped in marriage in the future...
The more Mr. Zhang Sr. thought about it, the sadder he became, unable to help but shake his head and sigh.
Lin Xiang leaned in close to Mr. Zhang Sr. and whispered, "Teacher, I’ve already discussed it with my family. The so-called marriage is just getting the certificate, which doesn’t mean I’ll have to stay home and be a housewife afterwards. I will complete my university studies first, and consider having children only after my career is stable in the future."
"Even if I have children, I won’t stop advancing in my career; children will only enrich my life, not become an obstacle to my progress."
"So your worries won’t exist; I will be your best student."
Mr. Zhang Sr. didn’t expect Lin Xiang to say that, was stunned for a moment, then looked at Cheng Jinyun and softly asked, "Does he agree?"
"He agrees."
Lin Xiang still needed to toast other friends and relatives, so after saying a few words to Mr. Zhang Sr., she left.
After making the rounds, she felt utterly exhausted.
Before this, she didn’t realize Cheng Jinyun had so many relatives.
Just thinking about dealing with so many people during future holidays made Lin Xiang feel terrible.
Cheng Jinyun keenly sensed the change in Lin Xiang’s emotions and comforted, "I’m not very familiar with these relatives either. It’s just that Aunt felt it was inappropriate not to inform them about the wedding. We won’t be too close in the future, our real relatives are only Uncle and Aunt."
"Even if it’s necessary to contact them, as long as you don’t want to, you don’t have to face them. I’ll handle everything, no need to worry."
"Okay." Lin Xiang nodded lightly, "Then let’s go over there..."
"Cheng Jinyun, how could you not tell me about such an important event as your wedding, do you still consider me your father!"
The doors of Quanfu Building were violently pushed open from outside, several waiters followed behind Cheng Jianfeng as he rushed in, on the verge of tears from nervousness and fear.
"Mr. Cheng insisted on coming inside, we couldn’t stop him."
"It’s none of your concern, go attend to your tasks."
Lin Xiang asked the waiters to leave first.
Cheng Jinyun blocked her front, looking coldly at Cheng Jianfeng, "Why are you here?"
Having not been seen for some time, Cheng Jianfeng bore no resemblance to his previously spirited self.
The clothes he wore seemed scavenged from some nook or cranny; though it was a Zhongshan suit, it was full of wrinkles, and his hair hadn’t been washed for a long time, resembling a heap of dry grass piled on his head. His beard, unshaved for at least a month, was nearly a full-grown whiskers beard.
It’s evident that during this period, Cheng Jianfeng’s days have not been easy.
But again, it’s not surprising. With Uncle Cheng’s help, Cheng Jinyun not only reclaimed Quanfu Building, he also retrieved the inheritance left to him by his mother and grandfather from Cheng Jianfeng.
The money Cheng Jianfeng had on hand was still from previous Quanfu Building profits.
Additionally, when Chen Miaoying attempted to frame Lin Xiang and Xingfu Restaurant, and Cheng Jinyun exposed her deeds completely to Cheng Jianfeng as revenge.
After marrying him, Chen Miaoying was not faithful, and even his youngest son was not his own.
This was aside from Chen Miaoying using his money to support other men.
Knowing his spouse committed such sordid acts, Cheng Jianfeng couldn’t withstand the immense blow and began to wallow in despair.
Until he heard from someone that Cheng Jinyun was getting married today.
No matter what discord existed between father and son before, Cheng Jinyun was still the only biological son he had, despite his dislike, he forced himself to attend the wedding.
Only after arriving did he discover, Cheng Jinyun had no intention of acknowledging him as a father!
In response to Cheng Jianfeng’s questioning, Cheng Jinyun’s expression stayed indifferent, "If you’re here to dine, you’re welcome. If you’ve come to make trouble, don’t blame me for disregarding familial ties."
"Cheng Jinyun you..."
"Second Brother."
Uncle Cheng stepped forward, cutting off Cheng Jianfeng’s unfinished sentence, "Today is Ah Yun and Xiangxiang’s wedding day, you’ve already harmed Ah Yun once, if you want to recognize this son, don’t stir up trouble today. Otherwise, don’t blame me for abandoning brotherly sentiment."
Deep down, Cheng Jianfeng was still intimidated by his elder brother. After being reprimanded by Uncle Cheng, he immediately restrained himself from causing trouble, shrank back his neck, and found a corner to sit down.
Watching Cheng Jinyun and Lin Xiang mingle among the guests toasting, Cheng Jianfeng felt a pang of discomfort.
Clearly, he is Cheng Jinyun’s biological father.
This son grows ever more outstanding, yet he personally pushed him away.
Cheng Jianfeng felt like an outsider amidst the lively atmosphere of Quanfu Building, particularly in such a space, his breathing felt uneasy, prompting him to quietly leave.
Lin Xiang noticed and lightly tugged at Cheng Jinyun, signaling him to look at the door.
"If he leaves, he leaves. I wasn’t planning on inviting him anyway."
Cheng Jinyun asked Lin Xiang, "Xiangxiang, do you think I’m cruel for treating my biological father this way?"
"Cruel? Not at all. You just ignored him, without any retaliatory actions."
Lin Xiang replied, "He knew full well his second wife lost you, yet didn’t bother retrieving you, instead continued to live lovingly; he didn’t regard you as a son, why should you see him as a father?"
Lin Xiang squeezed Cheng Jinyun’s hand, "In the future, let’s ensure we take good care of Uncle and Aunt. After all, they’ve been tirelessly searching for you all these years."
If not found by Uncle Cheng, he would still be called Lin Yun, sharing the same household registration as Lin Xiang, both still siblings, let alone getting married, even dating wouldn’t be possible.
After the wedding feast ended, Cheng Jinyun and Lin Xiang stood at the entrance of Quanfu Building and saw the guests off, then joined Mrs. Lin to return to the Lin Family.
Uncle and Aunt watched the family of three leave, unable to resist saying, "Ah Yun is still closer to them."
"Considering it’s Xiangxiang’s father who found him, and Xiangxiang’s mother who raised him, and now Xiangxiang is married to him, it’s normal he’d be closer to them." Aunt remarked, "As elders, our only wish is seeing the kids live happily; that’s enough."
Regarding closeness to either side isn’t important, because Aunt knows, Cheng Jinyun holds them in his heart, and that’s sufficient.
"By the way, make sure you arrange fewer dangerous tasks for Ah Yun in the future; he has a family to support now!"
