Chapter 24 Ghost Train

Chapter 24 Ghost Train

The night was as dark as ink, and the rain poured down.

Deep in the Savage Mountains of northern Myanmar, a long-abandoned narrow-gauge railway looms in the lightning. This railway, once a military supply line during World War II, has long been swallowed by vines and is nowhere to be found on any map.

But Lin Yu knew it was still alive.

"Five hundred meters ahead is the tunnel from Suya's memory." Acha lay on the muddy hillside, observing ahead through night vision binoculars. "Radar shows a faint heat source reaction inside the tunnel. And... there's regular vibration."

"It's a train." Lin Yu gripped his tactical rifle tightly, his right eye's "Emperor's Eye" already switched to penetration mode, trying to see through the thick rock wall. "A train that's still running. It seems the 'Phoenix' organization is using this place as a secret passage for transporting 'goods'."

"The general has already sealed off the border, but he said this train has a special key, and ordinary roadblocks won't stop it." Acha said anxiously, "We only have this one chance. If we let them through the tunnel into Laos, we're completely finished."

"Then don't let them into the tunnel." Lin Yu stood up, his eyes cold. "Assault team, split into two groups. One group will follow me to the tracks to set up an ambush, and the other group will blow up the tunnel exit. Remember, the objective is interception, not destruction. The 'experimental subjects' on the train are also victims; try to capture them alive."

Everyone nodded and quickly dispersed.

Rainwater streamed down Lin Yu's tactical vest, but he felt no cold. His entire attention was focused on the dark railway track.

Suya's memories are hazy, but she clearly remembers the green, rusty train, the piercing whistle, and the cries of those locked in iron cages.

"They're here," Lin Yu said in a low voice.

In the distance, a deep rumble echoed. It wasn't the rumble of an ordinary train, but a more muffled, mechanical sound, as if a steel behemoth were awakening in the darkness.

Immediately afterwards, a beam of pale light pierced through the rain.

It was an old-fashioned steam locomotive, but it had undergone drastic modifications. The locomotive's front was welded with heavy armor plates, and black and red smoke billowed from the chimney. The carriages were not ordinary passenger carriages, but rather sealed iron tank cars, without any markings, only ventilation holes, from which occasionally a suppressed whimper could be heard.

"Prepare for battle!" Lin Yu raised his hand.

Just as the train was about to enter the ambush zone, a sudden change occurred.

"boom--!"

Countless fireballs suddenly exploded on the hillsides on both sides of the railway tracks. It wasn't Lin Yu's explosives; it was an ambush!

"An ambush!" Ah Cha shouted. "Mr. Lin, we're surrounded!"

Lin Yu was startled. Before he could react, the roof of the ghost train suddenly opened, and more than a dozen dark figures leaped down like ghosts.

They were dressed in uniform black combat suits, their faces painted, and their movements were perfectly synchronized and incredibly fast.

"Kill them," the leader of the shadowy figures said, his voice cold, mechanical, and devoid of any emotion.

"Fire!" Lin Yu roared and pulled the trigger first.

Gunshots instantly ripped through the rainy night.

However, the reaction speed of those dark figures was simply incredible. They seemed to be able to predict the trajectory of the bullets, nimbly weaving and leaping through the hail of bullets, and in the blink of an eye, they were in front of Lin Yu.

"Close combat!" Lin Yu threw away his gun and drew his tactical knife.

He confronted the leading figure head-on.

"Clang!" The daggers clashed, sparks flying.

Lin Yu felt a tremendous force surge through him, and his hands went numb. The opponent's strength was actually no less than his own, even with the "Emperor's Eye" activated!

"Who are you?" Lin Yu asked in a deep voice.

The other party did not answer, but mechanically swung the dagger, each move deadly, a desperate fight.

In a fleeting moment of passing, Lin Yu's "Emperor's Eye" caught a detail on the other person's neck.

Rainwater washed over the dark figure's neck, revealing the skin there.

There is a red mark there.

A triangular birthmark.

A birthmark exactly like Suya's!

Lin Yu was shocked, and his hands paused involuntarily.

"What?!" he exclaimed.

In that moment of hesitation, the other person's dagger was already slashing towards his throat.

"Mr. Lin, watch out!" Ah Cha rushed over from the side and took a knife for Lin Yu, her arm immediately covered in blood.

Lin Yu snapped out of his daze and kicked the other man in the chest, sending him flying.

"Why...why do they all have the same birthmark?" Lin Yu's voice trembled as he looked at the dark figure lying on the ground. "Su Ya...wasn't she the only test subject?"

The dark figure got up from the ground, wiped the rain off his face, and a hint of confusion flashed in his eyes, but it was quickly replaced by a cold killing intent.

"Target... clear..." He raised the dagger again.

"Stop!" Lin Yu roared. "Who are you? Do you know Su Ya?"

The shadowy figure paused slightly, his eyes filled with even greater confusion, as if the name had touched a chord deep within his mind.

"Su...Ya..." he murmured to himself, a hint of pain in his voice, "Sister...?"

"What?!" Lin Yu and Acha exclaimed at the same time.

Just then, the ghost train suddenly stopped.

The car door opened, and a man in a white coat poked his head out, holding a remote control in his hand.

"Experiment subject B-02, execution failed," the man in the white coat said coldly. "Initiate self-destruct program."

"No!" Lin Yu was about to rush over.

Suddenly, the dark figure clutched its head and let out a piercing scream.

"No...don't...control me..."

His body trembled violently, and the birthmark on the back of his neck suddenly turned bright red and hot, as if it were about to burn.

"Stop him!" Lin Yu shouted.

But it was too late.

The dark figure suddenly raised his head, his eyes bloodshot. He looked at Lin Yu, and a strange smile appeared on his lips.

"Little brother...will protect...big sister..."

After saying this, his body suddenly exploded, turning into a cloud of blood mist.

The immense impact knocked Lin Yu and Acha to the ground.

In the rainy night, only the ghost train remained, coldly watching everything unfold, its doors slowly closing.

"Chase them!" Lin Yu scrambled to his feet, his eyes burning with rage. "No matter who they are, no matter how many there are, I'm going to rescue them! Stop this train!"

At this moment, Lin Yu finally understood.

Suya is not a lonely survivor.

In that dark laboratory, there were countless "brothers and sisters" just like her.

They were transformed, brainwashed, and turned into killing machines.

The dark figure who just exploded, the boy who called out "sister," may have been Suya's closest relative.

"System," Lin Yu coldly commanded in his mind, "Lock onto that train. I want them all to be caught!"

The flames of revenge burn fiercely along the border.
