Chapter 356
Chapter 356
At that moment, Lovi was still sitting at his desk in the dimly lit room, his fingers drumming an impatient and restless rhythm against the hard surface as he waited with barely contained agitation for Cora’s response to arrive in his inbox. His teeth were grinding together with the kind of tension that came from a man who was used to being in complete control of every situation and absolutely despised being made to wait for anything.
He was muttering to himself under his breath, his voice low and dangerous in the quiet of the room.
"What the hell is keeping Cora?" he growled, his eyes darting back to his phone screen for what felt like the hundredth time in the past twenty minutes.
"What is literally taking her so long? She was supposed to respond to that message immediately the moment she opened it. What on earth is keeping her from responding?"
He pushed back from his desk slightly and ran a hand through his hair with barely suppressed frustration, his mind already beginning to spiral into darker possibilities.
"Or does she actually think she can double-cross me?" he said, his voice dropping to something colder and more threatening. "Does she genuinely believe that she can just ignore this email and pretend it never arrived? Does she think she’s smart enough to just not respond and somehow make this whole situation disappear?"
Lovi stood up abruptly and began pacing the length of his desk, his footsteps heavy and deliberate against the floor as his mind raced through contingency plans with the practiced efficiency of someone who had been in this business long enough to always have a backup strategy ready and waiting.
"Well, if she thinks she’s wise enough to play games with me, then I need to give her a very clear and unmistakable sneak preview of exactly what I have planned for her," he said, his voice taking on a calculating edge that was far more frightening than simple anger.
"I’m going to show her precisely what I’m capable of doing when people decide to test my patience."
He sat back down at his desk and cracked his knuckles with deliberate slowness, his eyes narrowing as the plan formed with crystal clarity in his mind.
"What I’m going to do is hack directly into her company’s website and upload one of these videos - just a brief upload, just a matter of seconds worth of footage before I pull it back down again. Just enough for some people to catch a glimpse of it, just enough to start people talking and murmuring and asking uncomfortable questions."
A cold smile spread across his face as he continued laying out his strategy to the empty room.
"I won’t blow everything at once - that would be wasteful and premature. But I’ll blow just enough smoke to make her understand that the fire is very, very real and that I’m not bluffing about any of this."
His expression hardened with absolute conviction.
"And I am absolutely certain that is going to be exactly what forces her to stop playing games and answer me properly. If she thinks she’s wise, she’ll realize very quickly that she’s not nearly wise enough to outsmart me. I have plans that have been carefully constructed and meticulously thought through, and my plans are not going to fail me." He leaned forward toward his keyboard with renewed intensity. "My plans have never failed me in my entire career, and they are certainly not going to start failing me now. Not at this moment. Not when I am this dangerously close to actually getting everything I want from her."
So immediately, with the focused intensity of a man who had done this a thousand times before, Lovi’s fingers began moving across his keyboard with practiced speed and precision, typing in the name of Cora’s company website into his specialized hacking interface. The multiple screens surrounding his desk flickered and shifted as his programs began loading, lines of code scrolling rapidly across the displays like a digital waterfall.
"Let me just find you," he muttered, his eyes scanning the screens as the website’s backend architecture began to reveal itself to his probing programs. "There you are."
He leaned forward with a predatory smile, his fingers poised above the keyboard and ready to begin the intrusion that would send Cora the most terrifying warning she had ever received in her professional life.
"Well then," he said softly, cracking his knuckles one final time. "Let the hacking begin."
But immediately, at the precise moment those words left his lips, a notification sound cut through the quiet of his workspace like a sharp bell, and a message window popped up directly on his primary screen. Lovi’s eyes snapped to it instinctively, and when he saw the sender’s name displayed in bold letters at the top of the notification, his entire body went still.
It was from Cora.
The predatory smile that spread across Lovi’s face in that moment was slow and deeply satisfied, like a cat that had just watched a mouse walk directly into its trap without any hesitation whatsoever.
"Yes," he breathed, leaning back in his chair with the triumphant air of someone whose gamble had just paid off exactly as calculated. "I knew it. I absolutely knew it. I knew she couldn’t just ghost me like that. I wish she had tried - I genuinely wish she had been foolish enough to think that ghosting me was a viable option, because then she would have found out very quickly what is truly at stake here."
He shook his head with a low chuckle of satisfaction before continuing his private victory speech.
"Well, finally. Finally I’m going to be getting exactly what I want from her. It took a little longer than I expected, but here we are."
So immediately, without wasting another single second, he clicked the email open with eager fingers, and his eyes moved rapidly across the words that Cora had written in her response.
The email read: "Yes, I wasn’t expecting this from you at all. I genuinely wasn’t expecting you to go this far with something like this. But no problem - I don’t have any other choice but to come and see you. I understand what you want, and I understand what is at stake. So I don’t have any other choice but to comply."
